Declutter before decorating

Living room

Hi gang!

Often, if a decorating project seems overwhelming, it's because a room contains too much clutter!

My favorite part about decluttering is that it's free - and the results can be dramatic! This living room was disorganized before my crew from HGTV and I got our hands on it, but now it's an inviting space, centered around the all-important fireplace.

We also added a new chandelier and window treatments in the foyer and painted the walls with warm, neutral paint to soften the room.

What room in your house needs to be decluttered the most?

Ciao!

Hi:

I usually try to declutter before I decorate.  I find that it is alot easier to see what space I have to work with.

After I have finished decorating a room, I then pack away my "clutter objects" for future use.  I do find that I am always on the lookout for yard sale or thrift store objects that suit my taste and decorating needs.  These items may end up back in my rooms or perhaps stored on my decorating shelves "just incase" I want to change out something.

Lisa, I love your decorating style.  It's fresh, serene, and uncluttered!

A great benefit of removing the clutter is just as you said:  it's free (unless you hire an organizer LOL).  The easiest update for any room or home.

I'm a pro organizer, and I direct people to your site for decorating ideas and inspiration.  It's a terrific resource, and so upbeat!
